d3.js FX data visualisations
The Chart shows the exchange rate over time, with recommendation open/close points plotted as dots with connecting lines, and in the background the count of open long/short ideas (blue/orange), visualising the sentiment.
The world map links two countries with a line when someone bought or sold the currency pair. Since each trade always involves one buy and one sell, the line transitions from orange at the selling end to blue at the buying end. When there’s a concentration of sells in one country, there’s a cluster of orange, showing sentiment for that currency was negative at the time.
This turned out to not be a very effective visualisation since the Euro isn’t country-based, and there are too many currencies clustered in Europe. A chord diagram would have been better, but it was fun to learn about geoplotting in d3.js.
